Notes

The irish terrier is famous for being incredibly brave, on the verge of stupid. It is said to be the oldest irish terrier, but no one knows for sure. But it is known that it has been a farmdog since the 1700's. Back then, it came in not only red but also black and tan or brindle, which might be a sign of british relations. The breed was shown in a show for the first time in 1870, and a breed club was formed nine years later, where only red dogs were accepted.

The irish terrier should be taller, longer and built more for speed than the wire fox terrier, with good mass and bone. It must not appear heavy, and should radiate courage, elegance and good proportions. The head is elongated, with little stop and a characteristic beard. The eyes are small, with a fiery and lively expression. The ears are small, V-shaped and carried tipped forward. The neck is rther long and thicker towards the chest. The body is proportionate with a straight back and deep chest. The tail is set high, carried high but not curled over the back.
