Notes

There were once many local sheepdog types in Britain, and some of them still exist as different breeds. One of these breeds was originally found on the borders between England and Scotland, and was therefore known as the 'border collie'. They were hard-working dogs with a good reputation, and were recognized in 1976.
The border collie is one of the most trainable breeds around, but has a strong herding instinct and should not be kept as a companion dog only as it requires a lot of stimulation.

The breed is a worker and should be judged as such. It should never appear so extreme that its working ability would suffer.
The head should be moderately broad with a marked stop and dry jaws. The ears are of medium sized, normally tipped over though erect and drop is also seen. The neck is long, powerful and slightly arched. The body is rectangular without being long, with well developed chest, visible tuck up and straight back. The tail is curved and long enough to reach the hock. The coat is short or medium length, longer on the neck, forming a ruff, and tail.
