Notes

Small, white dogs have been found in the Mediterranian area for thousands of years. They were kept not only as companion dogs, but also on ships and as circus dogs.
The bichon breeds are believed to be miniature versions of the breed barbet, which is also the breed the poodle originates from.
The original bichon frisé could be found on the Canary Islands during the middle of the 1800's, but the interest for the breed lessened. It is thanks to devoted belgian and french breeders that collected the remaining dogs and started a breeding project that the bichon frisé could finally be reocognized in 1934 by the French Kennel Club.

The bichon frise should hae a rounded skull with slight stop, rounded muzzle and dry lips. The ears should be long enough to reach halfway to the tip of the nose. The neck is quite long, the chest rather large, with slight tuck up. The tail should be carried high and be well coated. The coat is fine, silky and forms loose curls.

Notes: Some puppies who have colour spots in the adoption centre will out grow their colours to become solid white, or will just out grow some of their colour spots. It is recommended that this file be shown in a profile ('dane') pose, however obviously both eyes need to be showing when registering.
