Notes

Most experts believe that the poodle originates from old european hounds crossed with the french breed barbet. Its name comes from german 'pudel' ('to splash') and despite having France listed as its home country, the poodle is mainly a german breed with a fair share of russian blood as well.

The poodle is a highly versatile dog, that competes with success in many different dog sports. It's also a valued companion and show dog, with many different coat cuts, such as 'continental', 'second puppy' and 'lamb'.

The poodle should have an elegant head, dry and proportionate. The muzzle is straight and powerful, with little stop. The eyes should have a lively expression. The ears are set rather low and long enough to reach the tip of the muzzle is held out. The neck is powerful, slightly arched, carried high and proud. The body is slighly rectangular with well developed chest, slight tuck up and straight topline. Well angulated legs. The tail is set rather high. The coat can be either wooly or banded, and there are several coat cuts.
