Notes
The Bombay originated as a hybrid between the Burmese and the American Shorthair. Despite its hybrid past, today’s Bombay has a look of its own. Known as the cat with a patent leather coat and new penny eyes, it is a medium-sized, well-balanced cat that is friendly, alert and outgoing. Accepted by CFA in 1976, the Bombay was developed in Louisville, Kentucky during the 1950s by a breeder who sought to create a “miniature panther”; the end result was a solid, sturdy little black cat with wild looks and a mischievous, outgoing personality that adapts well to busy households.

Medium in size, the Bombay resembles a slightly longer, slightly leggier Burmese rather than an even hybrid between the parent breeds. Deeper black shades are preferred.
