The name Priscilla is old Latin, and means "ancient". It is a pet form of the less common name, Prisca, which shares Biblical and ancient Roman roots. The name Prisca is used in the New Testament to refer to the wife of Aquila. This Priscilla is named after the tenebrous spinstress in Nathaniel Hawthorne's third novel, "The Blithedale Romance".
