Notes

The weimaraner was named after the little town Weim in Germany, which was where Goethe lived. Duke Karl August was in charge here, and bred the dogs that the modern weimaraner originates from. The breed was recognized in 1896 and so valuable that for a while it was illegal to export it!

Even though the weimaraner is mainly a bird dog it has also been trained to hunt different types of mammals as well as to function as a tracking dog, a sled dog, a police dog, and it is is well known for being an excellet watchdog.

The weimaraner should have a dry and rather broad head. The top of the muzzle should be straight or slightly convex, with the muzzle slightly longer than the skull. The ears are broad, set high and long enough to reach the tip if stretched out. The neck is rather long, muscular and dry. The body is slightly rectangular, with strong back and deep chest. Good boning, with well angulated front and hind legs. The coat can be short or long.
