The ibizan hound, or podenco ibicenco as it's also called, originally comes from Ibiza, where it was kept as a hare hound. Either one or a whole pack of dogs is used, and they take care of the whole hunt without human help. Typical for the breed is to jump into the air to get a good view, since it usually hunts in high grass.
The ibizan hound should have a long, thin head, rather small in proportion to the body, with little stop and slightly concave top of muzzle. The ears are erect, facing forwards, to the sides or back. They are thin and hairless on the insides. The neck is dry, muscular and slightly arched. The body is of medium length, with straight back and rather shallow chest. Visible tuck up. Good boning with straight front legs and well angulated hind. The tail should be set low, carried hanging during rest and in a sable-shape during movement. The ibizan hound comes in three coat varities, and is related to the portugese and spanish sighthound-like hound breeds.
