Notes

This breed, sometimes called GSP ('Pointer' is not used very often as it refers to the english pointer) originates from different types of old german setting dogs. During the late 1800's the breed was not quite up to par compared with other breeds, so prince Albrecht zu Solms-Braunfels, Dr Ziegler and von Zedlitz bred it with british pointers. At this time the nationalism was very strong in Germany, and 'pure' german dogs were greatly preferred, so it quite brave an act of them. The experiment succeeded, giving us the modern german shorthaired pointer.

The german shorthaired pointer should appear to have good endurance, be fast and strong. The head is of medium size, dry with moderate stop and straight or slightly curved top of muzzle. he ears are of medium size, set high and broad apart and carried close to the head. The neck is of good length and slightly arched. The chest is deep, with slight tuck up and strong back. The tail can be docked or natural. The coat is short and smooth.
