Notes

Lapphunds have been found in northern Scandinavia for as long as anyone can remember. It was originally kept as a reindeer hunting dog, but was later reschooled to be a herder instead.
In the 1930's, a breeding project was started in an attempt to make a breed out of the sami herding dog, but without much luck. It wasn't until the 1960's, when breeders tried again, that the project succeeded. The finnish lapphund was recognized in 1975.

The finnish lapphund should give the impression of being a medium sized spitz, powerful in comparison to its size and very agile. The head is rather broad with sharp stop and rounded muzzle. The ears are set wide apart, erect and broad at the base. The neck is of medium length and covered in thick hair. Stable and strong, straight back with deep and long chest and slight tuck up. Straight frontlegs and hind angulated well enough to offer good movements. The tail is set high and carried high during movement.
