Notes

The english setter belongs to a very old type of hunting dog, and were used alongside with nets long before guns were developed. During the 1500's, these dogs became known as setting spaniels, an expression that lived on long after the dogs had been divided into setter and spaniel breeds.

The english setter should appear to be a dog of medium size with elegant lines and movements. The head should be carried high, elongated with marked stop. The muzzle is square. The eyes have a mild expression. The ears are of medium length, set low and close to the head. The neck is long, dry and muscular. Typical for the breed is the transition from head to neck being clearly cut out. The body should be of medium length and well collected. The chest is long, broad and deep, with a short and straight back. Legs well angled. The tail is carried like a continuation of the back, and well covered in long fur. The coat is short on the face and frontsides of the chest, long and silky on the backside of the legs and undersides.
