The Teddy Roosevelt Terrier is an american breed that originates from early immigrant working-type dogs, most likely fox terriers, manchester terriers, beagle, whippets, italian greyhounds and the now long-gone english terrier. The dogs were used as ratters and became known as 'rat terriers'. Two types evolved, most easily told apart by their leg length. The short-legged ones were most likely at one point crossed with dachshunds or corgis and were named in honour of president Teddy Roosevelt, who owned such dogs. The breed was recognized by the UKC in 1999.

The teedy roosevelt terrier should be low-set, muscular and active, clearly longer than it is tall, with a broad head and V-shaped ears that can be erect or button-type. The tail is usually docked but can also be naturally bobbed or long and carried in an upwards curve.
This is a working breed and should be viewed as such, and a 'fault' in this breed is something that would affect the dog's working abilities negatively.
