Solid:

Sable: Red or blue sable in any of the patterns.

Faults

Note that in this breed, grey/blue can represent either faded black or dilute black, so either blue or black pigment is correct. The eye/nose should however match to avoid being faulted.

Notes

The Briard is an old breed, used for guarding and herding stock in France. This was an 'all arounder', a farm dog that had multiple tasks to accomplish. The Briard was a partner to the shepherd, relying on intelligence and its independent nature to get those tasks done. He was a family dog as well, going home at night to watch over the family and their household.

The briard is rectangular, robust and powerful. The head is compact with marked stop and straight muzzle. The eyes should have a calm expression, but are often obscured by fur. The ears can be cropped or natural. The body is broad, long with deep chest and straight back. The tail is carried low, the tip should have the shape of a hook. The coat is long and slightly wavy.
