Notes

The sloughi, also known as the arabian greyhound, is believed to be a close relative to the saluki. The breed has long been found in the Middle East and northern Africa, and some believe these dogs originate from the egyptain hounds. This would make them over 4000 years old!
The word 'sloughi' is said to be arabian for 'sighthound', though the literal translation is 'fast as the wind'. The sloughi is a hunter that uses its eyes to find and follow prey, just like other sighthounds. In the west, it first reached France where much of the modern breeding has taken place; this is the reason the original standard is in french.

The sloughi should give a very noble impression. The head is elongated, noble and poerful with a wedge-shaped muzzl. Little stop. The ears are set high, triangular and carried close to the head. The neck is long, slightly arched and dry. The body is short with almost straight back, deep chest and tuck up. Good boning, with rather angled front legs and well angluated hind. The tail is set as a continuation of the back and carried low. The coat is very short and thin.
