Notes

Komondor-like dogs have been found on several thousand years old inscriptions, and it is for certain that these dogs have been kept as flock guardians for centuries. The thick cords did not only help the dogs blend into the herd, but also offered excellent protection against predators, that could not bite through the thick locks. The komondor is known to attack intruders quickly and silently, without hesitation.

The komondor should be give the impression of a large and awesome dog with an eye-catching coat. The head is broad with marked stop and a muzzle that should be shorter than the skull. Straight top of muzzle with a rounded tip. The ears are set high and U-shaped. The neck is of medium length, typically carrying the head low. The body is rather long, with barrel-shaped chest and short back. The tail is set low. The komondor's trademark coat is a natural trait, and not something that is done by the owners of the dog. When the komondor takes a bath, it can take up to 48 hours for the coat to dry again, and show preparations can sometimes take up eight days! Despite this, the breed has gained some popularity as a show breed.
