Notes

The black russian terrier is actually not a terrier at all, but a robust working dog that was created during the Second World War, by crossing giant schnauzers and airedale terriers. These dogs were later crossed with rottweilers, and finally with a dog called 'Moscow retriever', which originated from a newfoundland/german shepherd cross.
The black russian terrier was once considered a very aggressive breed, perhaps not surprising seeing how it was bred to be a powerful and rather dangerous military dog. Modern black terriers, however, are considerably calmer, though the breed still requires an experied owner.

The russian terrier should have a elongated and quite broad head, with a marked stop and powerful muzzle. The ears are small and triangular, the neck long and powerful. The chest is deep and broad with a slight tuck up. The tail is set high and thick. The coat is wirey and thick.
