Notes

Also known as the Cão da Serra da Estrela or Serra da estrela Mountain Dog, this breed comes in both smooth and longhaired. Although initially a shepherd dog this breed is also used as a guard dog and draft dog.

The estrela mountain dog should appear large, powerful and majestic, yet agile. The head is large and massive with slight stop and rounded muzzle. The eyes have a calm expression, the ears are set rather high and are triangular with rounded tips. The neck is short and powerful, set on a deep and broad chest, with a quite short and straight back. Slight tuck up. The tail should be carried in the shape of a sabre. The coat can be short or long.
