Notes

The maltese belongs to the barbichon family, and is one of the earliest known toy breeds. It has been found depicted on a vase from ca 500 B.C, and was first mentioned by Aristoteles (384-322 B.C). It's not certain which italian island it comes from, and there have been many theories on the details of the maltese's past.

The maltese is a lovely little dog, always white with dark brown eyes. It should radiate elegance and be very eye-catching. The head is of medium size, with the muzzle and skull the same length, rounded head and marked stop. The eyes have a lively expression. The ears are set high, triangular and long, carried close to the head. THe neck is slightly arched, carrying the head high. Rectangular ody with slight tuck up and straight topline. The tail is carried curved over the back. The coat requires extensive care, long and silky.
