Notes

The dunker is closely related to the norwegian hygen hound, and they were once counted as one breed. They were finally separated in 1925.
The dunker is mainly a hare- and fox hunter. It works alone, never in packs like the british and french hounds.

The beautiful marbled coat of the dunker is genetically a blue merle, which is a form of partial dilution in the coat.
Overall, the dunker should appear to be rectangular, strong but not heavy. The head is rather long and dry but not wedge shaped. The stop should be moderate, with flat cheeks and straight top of muzzle. The ears are set at medium height and should be long enough to reach the middle of the muzzle if stretched out. The neck is rather long, carrying the head proudly. The back is short, strong and straight, with a deep and long chest and slight tuck up. The tail should be carried like a continuation of the back. The coat is short, hard and thick.
