Notes

The patterdale originates from Lake District, England, where it was kept as a working dog, especially for fox hunting. Even today, the breed is better adapted to an active working life rather than the still life of a pet. They are not nervous or loud, however, and usually calm indoors provided that they get enough exercise and mental stimulation. It was recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1995.

The Patterdale is a working terrier, and must be judged as such. The head and muzzle should be strong and powerful, with small ears folded to the side of the cheeks. The neck is strong and muscular, connecting to an active-looking body. The chest must not be too big, and the back should be strong and straight. The tail is set high.
