White Markings: Any of the above with or without in any amount. White tailtip not required in dogz with trim/irish spotting. Symmetrical patterns preferred. Ticking in any amount is allowed.
If the dog has solid white longhaired areas and non-white shaved areas, the shaved areas cannot have white spotting. Such already registered dogz are less preferred.

Eyes

in black and white dogz, in livers.

Nose

in black and white dogz, in livers.

Faults

Wrong eye colour. Wrong nose colour.

Disqualifications

Unfuzzy fur on pompom fur. Fuzzy fur on clipped areas.

Notes

The portugese water dog has been found by the shores of Portugal for hundreds of years, and has traditionally been the fishermen's dog. The dogs guarded their belongings, swam after lost nets and even swam between boats with messages. It is, perhaps not so surprising, an excellent distance swimmer. When most fishermen disappeared, so did the waterdog, and it was thanks to a few dedicated breeders that the portugese water dog did not disappear forever.

The portuguese water dog should appear to be a dog of medium size, powerful, muscular and agile. The head is somewhat longer than the muzzle, with a marked stop. The ears are heart shaped and carried close to the head. The neck is short, straight and carried high. The back is short and straight, with a deep chest. The tail is carried curved or hanging. The coat can be either longer and wavy, or shorter and curly.
